Sourcing Propargyl Alcohol? ChemicalDekho connects you with specialized manufacturers and importers like BASF. Secure high-efficiency corrosion inhibitors for steel pickling and electroplating.
Propargyl Alcohol (CAS 107-19-7) is the industry standard corrosion inhibitor for hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. When steel is dipped in acid to remove rust (pickling), Propargyl Alcohol forms a protective film on the bare metal, preventing the acid from eating the steel while allowing it to dissolve the rust. It is also used as a brightener in nickel electroplating.
**DANGER:** This chemical is highly toxic (oral/dermal/inhalation) and flammable. Strict PPE and handling protocols are required.

Toxic if swallowed, in contact with skin, or inhaled. Flammable liquid and vapor (FP 33°C). Causes burns. Rapidly absorbed through skin.
It adsorbs onto the metal surface and polymerizes to form a microscopic, protective film that physically blocks the acid from attacking the metal atoms.
No. It is highly toxic. However, it is used in very small concentrations (0.1% - 0.5%) in acid baths, making the diluted bath manageable with safety gear.
No. It is designed for Ferrous metals (Steel/Iron) in strong acids (HCl/H2SO4). Different inhibitors are needed for Aluminum.
During 'Acidizing' (pumping acid to open rock pores), Propargyl Alcohol protects the steel pipes thousands of feet underground from being dissolved by the acid.
