Sourcing Sodium Methoxide? ChemicalDekho connects you with alkoxide experts like Alkyl Amines and Deepak Nitrite. Secure high-activity catalysts for transesterification and pharmaceutical synthesis.
Sodium Methoxide (CAS 124-41-4) is an extremely active base used to initiate organic reactions. Its biggest application is in the Biodiesel industry, where it catalyzes the conversion of vegetable oil into biodiesel (Transesterification). It is also used in the synthesis of Vitamins (A, B1) and Sulfonamides.
**HANDLING:** It is highly hygroscopic and reacts exothermically with moisture to regenerate Methanol and Caustic Soda. Supply is strictly nitrogen-sealed.

Flammable solid/liquid. Reacts violently with water to release heat and Methanol. Causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Self-heating.
It is the most efficient catalyst. Unlike Caustic Soda (NaOH), it doesn't create water during the reaction, which means less soap formation and higher biodiesel yield.
Yes. The 30% solution is in Methanol, which is highly flammable. Even the powder can self-heat and ignite if exposed to moist air.
It instantly turns back into Methanol (flammable/toxic) and Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda - corrosive). Never use water on a spill.
Large biodiesel plants prefer the 30% Solution because it can be pumped easily. Pharma companies often prefer Powder for specific dry reactions.
